HO Scale Trains

Ho scale trains - Availability and Advantages

The Ho scale trains are named such because they are about half the size of the original O scale trains and today they have become the most popular model train out there. Wondering whether or not these trains are the right option for you? Well, here’s a look at availability of these trains as well as some of the advantages of these trains when compared to some of the other train scales available today.

Availability of Ho scale trains

Since these trains are extremely popular, there are many different supplies, kits, models, and more that are made today. In most cases there are three different varieties you can purchase when choosing these models.

•            Craftsman Kit Options - This option is a kit that requires you to assemble the train on your own. In many cases there can be hundreds of different parts included that you have to put together. It will take quite a bit of time and a lot of skill to put these trains together. This is not an option for the beginner.

•           Shake the Box Kit Options - These kits are very easy to use. Usually there are only a few parts in these kits, so just about anyone can assemble them without a problem and you can have them on the tracks pretty quickly.

•           Ready to Go Models - Then there are models that are ready to go. These Ho model trains can be taken out of the box and put on the track and run right away. However, there still may be some detailing for you to do when they come out of the box.

Advantage to Going with Ho model trains

There are some definitely advantages to going with Ho scale trains compared to choosing some of the other scales that are available today. One of the main advantages is that they are middle of the road in size. They are large enough to have some great detail, and definitely have more detail than the Z and N scale trains, which are much smaller.

Another advantage is that these trains can be used by children. You don’t have to worry about them swallowing and choking on a small part and kids and easily use these trains too. These models are usually cost effective as well. They are less expensive than larger O scale trains because it doesn’t take as much material to make them. Yet they are still less expensive than smaller Z and N scales too, since they don’t have such an exact manufacturing process. Also, since they are so popular, this also works to drive down the price as well.

Due to their size, you can really have some elaborate track designs, even if you don’t have a huge amount of space available. They definitely provide a great balance between smaller space requirements and great detail, which is why Ho model trains are the most popular options available today.
