The acronym HO stands for half-zero, literally half the size of the O scale. It is expressed in 1:87 ratio which signifies its dimension is 1/87th the size of the real train. Those who'd wish particulars on their train engine models will be pleased to know that HO model trains accommodate the greatest degree of detail respective of its size and value. Yet another reason is the resulting price when you have an already big market, it becomes somewhat less expensive. In a nutshell, it's the cheapest model railroad scale.
As the years went by, so widespread was the demand for HO Scale that even restricted manufacturers of other gauges started producing model railroads in the HO Scale Design -in order to stay afloat.
